It Looks Like You Could Use Some Help

As I began clearing my mind for my coffee ritual, I set the intention that the right message would come through for you. A few seconds later, the 8 of Pentacles reversed popped up. This told me that you need help, not opinions. And our morning coffee experience brings to light what your subconscious is telling you you need help with. And it seems that you need some help letting go of something.

This post turned out to be a long one. So if you’re short on time you are welcome to jump straight to “If You Read Nothing Else” section below.

What You Should Do

The Death card is always ominous. But actually, it isn’t. It’s a wonderful metaphor that boldly makes a point about letting go at the right time. So what are you holding onto that you may be ignoring the signs that it’s time for a change?

Our resulting latte wants you to know that while it may seem like things are changing so fast and you’re just not ready to let go, you really do know how to drive this life. Deep down you know that in many ways you take what you harvest with you as you consciously begin again.

Obligatory Autumnal Metaphor

To explain this further, it seems only natural, as we approach the Northern Hemisphere’s autumn season, to discuss this scene in terms of a harvest. First, you planted seeds (imagined and began to build your vision in your mind). Those seeds grew (super fast) and you tended them by visiting them often and giving them what they needed (more of your imagination to guide them to become what you wanted them to be). Now the fruits upon the stems and vines in your imagination are reaching their prime ripeness. And while they look so amazing and you almost can’t believe that you helped create them, it’s time to pluck them.

But You Don’t Want To

The fruits of your imagination have created some beautiful and fun experiences in the physical reality. You may even be holding them a bit tighter because you just can’t believe that you figured out how to create something so amazing. But the reality is, if you don’t harvest them – accept what they have given you and let them go – they will begin to rot on the vine. Which means that the situation you are enjoying will begin to go bad on its own. Which also means you won’t get to enjoy the last little bit. And honestly, that’s the best part of the whole experience. Enjoying the fruits of what you helped create. Literally enjoying “the fruits of your (imagination’s) labor”.

A Minute Too Late

You can also pluck the fruit a little too late, too. Which means the situation you created, which has begun to go bad, won’t be able to be fully enjoyed. Instead you will carry what remains of it as a reminder of what you could have done better.

Eventually you’ll have to figure out a way to set it down and move on. You’ll have to try extra hard not to go back and look at that rotting fruit of your regret. It will take more effort for you to remember how this all works so you can practice refocusing and begin again.

OK…Enough of That

So, now that you’ve had enough of that metaphor, suffice to say that there is something in your life of which you need to let go. A situation, an emotion, a relationship, a job, maybe even a child who is ready to launch into the world. Accept this reality. Enjoy the last little bit of it with a celebration.

Look fondly on the experience for all that it was. Be thankful for all that it has given you – the experiences, the memories, the feelings, etc. And if being emotionally tied to this is making it hard to see what you have received from all of this, simply ask yourself “what has all of this given me?” and write down the answers which come.

Celebrate this moment as a success and commit it to your memory. Do not let it whither and turn to regret. Remember, this doesn’t mean anyone is leaving your life. It’s that the experience you are having is evolving. And that’s the way it’s supposed to be.

If You Read Nothing Else

We tend to focus on the losses of “letting go”. That’s what makes change so painful. But that’s not the essence of letting go. Letting go is the opportunity to realize that it is time to imagine something new. It’s time to be filled with the joy of your experiences. Take the wisdom you have gained from the experience and focus on creating the improvements.
