Some may say that there’s a “devil inside” that drives people to make decisions which are out of character. Decisions which may go against interpersonal relationships and social norms.
But indulging a guilty pleasure, despite the mischief it creates, isn’t a devil inside at all. The desire for a guilty pleasure is just an unrefined cry for attention from the true self you are denying.
Desires Aren’t Guilty
If you look closely, your guilty pleasures have all the elements of your most sincere desires. Which means that your desires are not guilty pleasures at all. They are you. The real you.
Stop viewing what you desire as an indulgence. Or something to be rationed. Start understanding that your passion is trying to reveal and express itself through the desires you keep secret and only occasionally imbibe in. Otherwise known as “guilty pleasures.”
Instead of burying these pleasures until you simply can’t ignore them anymore, nurture them by engaging with them. Explore and develop them. Make them better and better. But instead of looking for their bigger outcomes, know that each step of exploring your passions adds up in many ways which are out of your awareness and control. All you need to do is keep exploring and growing and you will soon find that you’ve created the world you wish to experience. And you’ll have had a lot of fun indulging your passions in the process.
